Just got word that we need to be in Popayan, Colombia at 11 AM October 13 to meet our new little girl! We're so excited!
So here's some exciting news… buying plane tickets a week before you have to fly to another country is not easy to do :-) we had expected to pay about $400 for each ticket, but after calling 11 airlines, the best deal I could find was about $690 per ticket. Okay, so I can get over that. But here was the real kicker… we know what they were leaving, but we have no idea what day will be coming back. It's all in the hands of the Colombian court system. So we just have to guess at a return date for our round-trip tickets. Here's the problem . . . the change fee for each ticket is $250 . . . that means we would have to pay an extra $1750 when we find out the actual return date . . . YIPES!
So I called all the airlines and explained to them that this was an adoption, and asked them if there is anything we can do to waive the fee. No takers. Very nice people for the most part explaining to me that because the airline industry has been hit so hard, they make no exceptions for adoptions.
So we asked some good friends to pray for us about it in church yesterday. After church I went to Clay and Kole's baseball games and thought I'd give Delta Airlines one more call. They were the nicest people that I talk to. A girl named Heather got on the phone with me (very cool lady with four children of her own). I explained my situation to her and asked if there was anything they could do. So she puts me on hold for a few minutes and then gets back on the phone . . . she said, “Jason I just spoke to my supervisor and we don't feel it's fair someone who is adopting should have to pay this fee so we're going to waive it . . . and not only are we going to wave at me, but in a way that the standard $25 per ticket reservation fee as well . . ."
Woo hoo!!!! When I told my adoption agency when Heather and Delta Airlines did for us, they were amazed . . . they had never heard of an airline doing this for someone adopting! God is so good! Praise Jesus!
And a shout out to Heather . . . I gave her this blog address I hope that she gets to read it . . . thanks for being so kind and doing your best to help me and my family yesterday. God used you and we are so very grateful! My family will be praying for you and your four children that He will pour out his blessings and riches upon you, and that your children would grow up to know Him and become men and women of greatness!
Now the countdown to next week starts! Much to do!
